How to perform sampling of heart tissue

In this video you will learn how to perform sampling of heart tissue. Use sterile technique when extracting the sample to avoid contamination between samples from different fish. This method is well suited for agents related to myopathies, e.g. SAV (PD), PRV (HSMB), PMCV (CMS).

Step by step

  1. Open the fish as instructed in the film
  2. Take out the heart by grasping the bulbus arteriosus with the use of a sterile tweezer
  3. Use a sterile scalpel blade for the removal of the tip of the heart (ventricle)
  4. Trim heart tip in a sterile scalpel blade package
  5. Put A&B sample in the RNA-later tube
  6. Lid on
  7. Make sure heart tissue is covered in RNA-later
